SCARBOROUGH SWIMMING CLUB

Dear Member / Parent / Carer

We are fast approaching a new financial year for our club which means as treasurer, I have to look at all our fees and costs and be the ‘Chancellor of he Exchequer’ for a while to try and balance our books for the year ahead. Whilst I don’t have to look at billions of pounds to spend and recoup the amounts that we ask for do have an impact on your family and budget. Unfortunately, we are all involved in a Sport that has some very expensive costs. Most notably the Pool in which we swim.

Our cost for the pool for our last financial year which will finish on September 30th 2024 is a staggering £ 44 036. Our income from your monthly fees will be approximately £32000. It is inevitable that the Pool Hire cost will increase by at least the rate GDPI in April 2025.

The difference between the 2 amounts is substantial and there are numerous ways we use to ‘balance the books’. Apart from expenses for mainly travelling and overnight stays when we are competing none of our Coaches are paid. There are no bursaries for any of the Committee. We hold 3 open meets each year which generate income which we use to subsidise the costs to the club which in turn reduces the cost to you.

The Committee are confident that we are the cheapest Swimming Club in the Yorkshire Region for what we offer.

However, we will and do not stop there!

As your child progresses and qualifies for County and North Eastern Competition the Committee decided that all entries to these competitions will be paid for by your club. If your child qualifies for the Nationals we will also pay all entry fees for that as well.

If you help at any of the sessions during our 3 Open Meets we will reduce the entry fee of all of your child’s swims for each session you attend by 50%. This will be as a refund or a contribution to your monthly fees.

Any social event we hold will be subsidised by the club.

We will continue to purchase new and innovative equipment, such as the headsets, to help with our training methods.

Our coaches will continue to attend Swim England courses to achieve qualifications so you are confident that your child is receiving the best coaching available.

Your club Committee guarantee that any monies generated by and for the club is used to benefit the swimmers.

If you wish to be part of the ‘team’, we always need help and would love to have some new people on board, with new and fresh ideas.

Very shortly our coach’s will be informing you which squad your child will be assigned to from 1st October 2025.

Our fees will be published on the notice board and on our web site.

We will be switching to a new support system to enhance our offer and hopefully, make a much easier system of payment and communication. This will be introduced one squad at a time and will be announced once we are in a position to ensure it works.

Our new support will be Team Unify which can easily be accessed and run from a mobile phone. All Members will have to sign up to this support as we gradually phase out Swim Manager.

Land Training £ 2.50 per session or £10 per month.

Finally please accept our invitation to your club’s AGM on either 30th November or 6th December 2024. Your Officers and Coach’s will present their reports for the last year and you will have the chance to question them and approve our fees. We also hope to engage a large enough venue so that we can have a club party afterwards with music as a fitting way to start the Festive period.
