SCARBOROUGH SWIMMING CLUB

The club has always been a large part of the local community - swimmers performed to audiences at Peasholm Park and the Open Air Theatre, many local young people and several generations of families have learnt to swim with the club.

Many have achieved numerous regional, national and international successes both in the pool and open water, including English Channel swimmers, triathletes and water polo players. SSC swimmers have been awarded bursaries to universities here and in the USA as a result of their swimming talent and many have gone on to build careers in swimming both as coaches, judges, officials and swimmers.

OUR VISION

OUR VISION is to consistently work hard, have fun and be encouraging and supportive of each other in order to be the best that we can, and want to be.

OUR AIM

OUR AIM is that everyone involved with the club will gain a huge amount from being a part of Scarborough Swimming Club whatever their individual goals may be.

Competitive swimming takes dedication and hard work, particularly those early morning swim sessions, but the skills required to become a successful swimmer can have a very positive impact on many aspects of a swimmer’s life.

Swim training can increase a young person’s ability to concentrate and learn at school and being part of a team can be great for their mental wellbeing and confidence.

Swimmers are often disciplined and organised and gain other important workplace skills such as working as part of a team, resilience, building on positive criticism and learning how to win (and lose) with grace.

We run a range of sessions from half an hour to up to two hours long. These include learn to swim, development and stroke camps, distance badge sessions, competitive swim, land and open water training sessions. We usually break through the Summer and Christmas school holidays with limited training during these periods for our Squads.

We welcome and encourage you and your family to come along and see if Scarborough Swimming Club is for you and offer everyone two free sessions. Occasionally we run link sessions, which are a chance for you to sample our swim teaching if you are currently in a learn to swim programme with Everyone Active or anyone else - please ask for more details or advice if you’re not sure which sessions may suit you best.
