SCARBOROUGH SWIMMING CLUB

SSC Takes Another Giant Step

SSC Takes Another Giant Step

Hi as you are hopefully all aware we have made huge strides over the last three

years achieving our five-year plan for financial stability and to regain our numbers

following COVID; and most importantly achieve charitable status.

This was achieved from a starting base of around 20 swimmers in the January of

2021 with a coaching bill for £18,000 pounds, with the committee having to draw

£20,000 pounds from the clubs reserve in order to stay afloat. The committee and

Executive at that point had to seriously contemplate planning to windup the club up

if we did not turn things around within six months due to the financial situation.

Now we have more than a hundred swimming members who enjoy the cheapest

water time in the county who are building on our and their success. At every event

we attend the swimmers continue to achieve personal bests attaining the best

possible results for themselves and the club. Meanwhile we have succeeded in

holding costs as low as we possibly can and taken up the challenge to pay for all

Yorkshire, Regional, and National Entries for first preference club members who

attain qualifying times.

Our Open Meets continue to be a huge success with favourable feed back from all

who attend them, but they do require a large contingent of volunteers to make them

run as smoothly as they appear. We have piloted a number of different strategies to

incentivise volunteers to step forward to help the club in anyway they can (reduced

entry fees for those helping at open meets in any capacity) and have identified that a

major barrier to people volunteering is the requirement to pay for the privilege.

So in response to that and in accordance with our main aim as a club to make

swimming for all our members as affordable as we can while encouraging more

volunteers to step forward, your committee has decided to pay Swim England Fee’s

for all our first preference members which drops the cost of volunteering to a

nominal £6 membership (we need to charge for insurance purposes).

Finally I just want to reiterate that volunteering at the club is a rewarding experience;

helping our many swimmers to make the best of their time with the club and we

always welcome any one who wants to move into coaching, officiating or joining us

in any of the myriad of tasks that our thriving community need to succeed.

The finance team will be putting out some eligibility information via swim manager
